Robot Competitions

The Robotdalen Scientific Award is an international competition for young scientists, with EUR 20 000 in prize money. The purpose is to encourage graduate and postgraduate students worldwide to find new and untried approaches for the future in the field of robotics and automation. The next entry date is May 31, 2008. The winner will be announced on Robotdalen Day in Sweden on September 10, 2008.

Rats life programming contest. Win an e-puck robot and a Webots software!
This contest is organized by the ICEA project to promote research results and stimulate further interest in bio-inspired robotics control. The participation to the contest is open to anyone and free of charge. Contestants will be able to download a free version of the Webots software for simulating a robotic scenario where two rat robots compete for survival in a maze-like environment. The developed robot controllers can be transfered in real e-puck robots roaming an interactive LEGO maze.
The contest started on January 7th and ends on June 30th.

Reinforcement Learning Competition 2008 domains include: the game of Tetris; robot soccer keepaway, based on the RoboCup simulator; a real-time strategy (RTS) game; and a helicopter control problem, based on the work of Andrew Ng and collaborators. Dates: 1 July 2008: Deadline for submitting competition results; 6-9 July 2008: Competition event at ICML in Helsinki, Finland.

Eurobot, the European World Contest for Autonomous Robots, is a technical, scientific and entertaining challenge organised for students from engineering schools, universities or private scientific clubs. The 2008 theme is Mission to Mars.

The Roboka Cyber Robot Tournament is an international simulated humanoid robot wrestling contest held on the Internet. This competition is open to anybody.

RoboCup

The RoboCup Official Site presents information on the different events and sub-groupings of RoboCup, including RoboCupRescue, and RoboCupJunior, and Simulated RoboCup. World finals 2007 were held in July in Atlanta, USA.

RoboCupJunior provides a project-oriented educational robotics for students up through age 19, with a focus on providing a hands-on, scaffolded environment where learners can grow--by expanding their knowledge of, sparking their curiosity about and increasing their comfort with technology. There are currently three challenges: soccer, rescue, and dance, each emphasizing cooperative problem-solving; each designed to reach creative young minds with a range of interests, and skills

RoboCup@Home is a new league inside the RoboCup competitions that focuses on real-world applications and human-machine interaction with autonomous robots. The aim is to foster the development of useful robotic applications that can assist humans in everyday life. In the first year (June 2006, in Bremen) there were four tests covering different research topics.

Virtual RoboCup aims to develop realtime 3D visualizations of RoboCup simulation league soccer games by adding articulated 3D body models to the original 2D simulation.

TrackNAVCHALLENGE is aimed at British 14-18 year olds and tasks them with designing and building (with a bit of help!) a radio controlled, four-wheel drive model vehicle that emulates the all-terrain capabilities of a Land Rover. Regional Heats are at the end of June and the National Final at the start of July 2008.
