Calls, Jobs and Other News

The new EURON Board received resounding support in our big vote, with over 110 members out of 199 voting, and very few "no" votes.

Unfortunately EURON stopped accepting new members on Jan 20th 2008, so it is now too late to join.

The EURON Annual Meeting 2008 took place in Prague on March 28th.

EURON awards two prizes annually, the Georges Giralt award for the best robotics PhD thesis (see above call) and the Technology Transfer Award for cooperation between research and industry.

Mailing List

The EURON news and events items are also available through our mailing list euron-dist: a moderated mailing list for general announcements related to robotics, such as conferences, special issues, jobs, etc.

The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) has a quarterly Newsletter available free of charge to those interested in industrial or service robotics. Previous issues include : 4th quarter 2006, 3rd quarter 2006. IFR also keeps a list of Robotics conferences and symposia and of trade fairs and exhibitions.

Blogs on Network Robotics and Internet Computing

Heron robots have started blogs on network robotics and internet computing and network robotics. This initiative is currently in "beta" phase.

If you are interested in contributing, please contact or You will receive an invitation allowing you to post on the blog. In the future Heron is going to introduce a peer reviewed area (there will be a call for reviewer/editors later).

CONGRATULATIONS to Herman and John and the new EURON Board following their success in our big vote. Thanks to all who voted.

EU funding of the current EURON network ends at the end of April 2008.


Note that EURON stopped accepting new members on Jan 20th.

The server migration on 19th Dec went well, we hope that people were not too inconvenienced.

EURON's funding runs out on 30th April 2008. The network will continue, but the exact form of what can be achieved is still being discussed.

Martin receives Engelberger award

Congratulations to Martin Hägele of Fraunhofer IPA (Stuttgart)! He was awarded the Joseph F. Engelberger Robotics Award in a ceremony in Chicago on June 13th. The Engelberger Robotics Award is a prestigious robotics honour and recognizes outstanding individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the science of robotics and in the service of mankind.
