RSS 2008 Workshop on Robot Manipulation: Intelligence in Human Environments, June 28 in Zurich, deadline extended to May 13th.

An RSS 2008 Workshop on the Design and Control of Variable Impedance Actuators for Physical Interaction of Robots with Humans and their Environment will take place on June 28 in Zurich, Switzerland. Submission deadline extended to May 15th.

The 3rd International Conference on Nano-Networks, to be held in Boston, USA, from Sept 15-17, includes a Nano-Robotics Track. Paper submissions: May 15.

The 17th International Workshop on Robotics in Alpe-Adria-Danube Region RAAD08 will be held from September 15-17, 2008 in Ancona, Italy. Submission of full paper: May 17.

An International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (2008 ICIRA) will take place from October 15 - 17 in Wuhan, China. Submission deadline May 18th.

RAS are sponsoring a robotics comics compeition at ICRA'08, with a prize of $500.00 US to the winning team. The best comics will be published in the IEEE-RAS magazine. Submit your comic in pdf or jpg format or you can have it scanned at the desk on the first day of ICRA'08. The comics should explicitly relate to robotics, be no longer than 1-page, and entail no more than 6 strips. Example. Deadline: May 20th.

A RO-MAN workshop on Robots as Social Actors: Evaluating Social Acceptance and Societal Impact of Robotic Agents will take place on August 1st in Munich, Germany. Deadline extended to May 30th.

The Robotdalen Scientific Award is an international competition for young scientists, with €20,000 in prize money. The purpose is to encourage graduate and postgraduate students worldwide to find new and untried approaches for the future in the field of robotics and automation. Deadline: May 31st. The winner will be announced on Robotdalen Day in Sweden on September 10.

MICCAI 2008 Workshop on Needle Steering: Recent Results and Future Opportunities takes place on September 6th in New York, USA. Submit a poster abstract by May 31.

The 2nd workshop on Planning, Perception and Navigation for Intelligent Vehicles will take place at IROS on 26 September in Nice, France. Submission deadline June 1st.

The 15th International Conference on Mechatronics and Machine Vision in Practice will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, from 2 - 4 December. Abstract submission deadline: 1st June.

The IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine is producing a Special Issue on Software Engineering for Robotics. This special issue is intended to publish contributions on Software Engineering models, methods, and tools in the design of robot software systems with their applications to industrial and experimental robotics. Submission deadline: June 1st.

The Journal of Field Robotics is producing a Special Issue on Space Robotics. Deadline: June 2nd. Papers for this special issue must include technical descriptions of systems and results and analysis of experimentation. We invite technical descriptions and analysis of orbital robots/spacecraft and planetary rovers as well as prototype systems in hat have been field tested in terrestrial analogue environments. Lessons learned in development and operation are also pertinent.

The 9th International Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems DARS 2008 will take place in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan, from November 17-19. Full paper submission: June 30.

Springer are very pleased to announce the launch of the new International Journal of Social Robotics. Social Robotics is the study of robots that are able to interact and communicate among themselves, with humans, and with the environment, within the social and cultural structure attached to their roles. The journal will publish the latest developments in Social Robotics and its integration into our society, covering relevant advances in engineering, computing, psychology, arts, social sciences, and design philosophy. The goal is to provide a common platform for researchers, scientists, artists and designers to share their findings. First volume deadline July 1st.

ROBOTICA is producing a Special Issue on Surgical Robotics'. ROBOTICA is an official journal of the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). Deadline: July 1st.

The IEEE international Conference on Humanoid Robots (Humanoids2008) will take place in Daejon, Korea from 1 - 3 December. Submit by July 1st.

The Journal of Field Robotics is producing a Special Issue on Advances in Agricultural Robotics. High quality submissions are sought to present various state-of-the-arts applications of robotic techniques in the area of agricultural robotics and automation. Field experimentation results as well as conceptual ideas with potential to define the future of agricultural automation are of great interest. Perspectives from agricultural experts on robotics and automation are also of great interest. Deadline: July 25.
