Since 2002 Ognyan Borisov Manolov has been leader of the Laboratory for Autonomous MObile Robots LAMOR as well as an Associate Professor in the "Optimal Control" Department of the Institute of Control and Systems Research, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). Most of his career has been in BAS although he has also spent time as a researcher in the Academy of Sciences of both the USSR (Moscow) and Slovakia (Bratislava), and more recently as a visiting professor at ISR-Lisbon and at the University of Paderborn, Germany.

His special interests and expertise lie mostly in the control of parallel and dynamic systems, particularly:

  • Modelling and simulation of dynamic systems;
  • Optimal, adaptive and robust control;
  • Parallel and learning structures for processing and control;
  • Perception by multi-sensors, data fusion and filtering;
  • Information-control systems for autonomous mobile robots;
  • Obstacle avoidance, global navigation, path and mission planning;
  • Cooperative localization, navigation and remote control of robots group;
  • Biological inspired behaviour control of robots swarm.
