Markus Vincze graduated in 1988 in mechanical engineering from Vienna University of Technology (VUT) and in 1990 as M.Sc. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He finished his Ph.D. at VUT in 1993. With a three-year grant from the Austrian Academy of Sciences he worked as guest researcher at HelpMate Robotics Inc. and at the Vision Laboratory of Gregory Hager at Yale University. In 2004 he finished his habilitation. Presently he has is professor for robotics at the Automation and Control institute at VUT, where he leads national and European projects (e.g., ActIPret and Cognitive Vision) in the area of robust sensing for service robots and industrial applications. With Gregory Hager he edited an issue on Robust Vision for IEEE and is (co-)author of over 100 papers. His main interest is in vision techniques for real-world robotics solutions.
