EURON Website

The EURON II website has been functional since mid-January. The design criteria for the site, mostly that it should be fast and easy to use on all platforms, with a functional/elegant look, have largely been met and initial reactions have been good.

The site is still under development, and will be for many more months. More content is needed, please send some! More importantly at this early stage of development, the site structure needs to be finalised. People were encouraged to talk to Bridget about structure and particularly about what things might be missing at the moment. Four types of content were mentioned:

• from members, for members. This is obviously very important!
• from members, for others, eg summer school information. The website is probably our major method of advertisment, remember to send information you want advertised.
• from others, for members, eg conference announcements.
• from others, for others. Obviously we don't expect to put much of this on the EURON site, but there are special categories of "others" that we might be interested in attracting to our site, notably schoolchildren and journalists.

Some of the future development plans were mentioned, particularly the automation of data entry and the desire the allow others to manage their own parts of the site. These, like the search facility and switch to a content management system will happen as time allows. Hopefully, the automisation of the site will be invisible to users!
