EURON Board Working GroupsWG4: Roadmapping, Links to Industry, Research CoordinationThis Working Group is responsible for elaborating a proposal for the organisation of the roadmapping for robotics research in Europe, in cooperation with the industry and the European Commission. The WG also tries to most effectively coordinate the activities of FP6/FP7 projects in robotics, with respect to their "community outreach". NewsInvitation to participate with your case in the "Successfully Technical Transfer" SessionsIn the next International Symposium on Robotics (ISR 2009) to be held in Barcelona on March 10-13, 2009 there will be a session on Successful Technical Transfer. I invite you to participate in this session by sending a paper on your case (no more than two pages — free format) to the ISR09 Secretariat with copy to me by November 24th. email addresses : info AT isr09.com jagirre AT fatronik.com In collaboration with Yon San Martin from Roboconcept — a Fatronik's spin-off — and member of the Organizing Committee of ISR09 we are in charge of the organisation of this sessions. Current Proposal (September 30, 2008)This group works together with industry and the EC. Industry will (probably) take the lead in this cooperation, while EURON will provide input whenever relevant. In addition, this WG will be proactive in coordination activities between European robotics research projects, the European Commission, and the robotics industry. For example: coordination of the workshops that projects plan to organize to reach out to the community; organizing contacts between all European stakeholders to prepare project Calls; etc. EURON has produced a robotics research roadmap designed to clarify opportunities for developing and employing advanced robot technology over the next 10--20 years (2002 to 2022). Furthermore, a goal of EUROP, the industry-led European Robotics Platform, is to develop the Strategic Research Agenda of European Robotics, and CARE, the Coordination Action for Robotics in Europe---supported by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme (0.11.2006-31.10.2009)--- is also developing a Roadmap for robotics in Europe that identifies research priorities and defines a strategic research agenda for robotics in Europe. The preliminary version of this Strategic Research Agenda is here. The final version will be available by the end of the first quarter of 2009; the results of the EURON Roadmap is being integrated into this SRA, in order to have a unique and complete document covering all robotics research in Europe. There are also international and national activities reviewing the state of the art in robotics, exploring the development of robotic technologies and looking to the identification of opportunities. One such example is the roadmapping initiative in the U.S.A. Then, the main objective of this Working Group is to identify existing efforts, compile existing documents, and contribute to maintain and update the existing Roadmaps taking into account the evolution of the robotics research worldwide, the technology developments and the application scenarios. The Working Group will also cooperate with EUnited, the European Robotics Association, to establish links with robot manufacturers and system integrators. Getting InvolvedWe hope that you will get involved in many of EURON's activities and encourage others to do so as well. Attend MeetingsAttending meetings is an excellent way of making contacts and friends within the community. These contacts are normally interesting, and may also be useful! EURON Schools are aimed at PhD students so are particularly good for people wishing to deepen an already existing interest. [ More details ... ] Contribute to the InitiativesYour knowledge and resources are valuable — please consider sharing them with others by adding items to the databases, contributing your opinions to the roadmap and benchmarking initiatives, and your information to this website. Especially, please contribute to the Video Collection for Students asap. [ More details ... ] Use the ResourcesMake use of the resources that EURON offers. Much of the information is freely available to all, but for other resources you have to be a EURON member. Apply for the grants, use the databases and the contacts, apply for the awards, use the mailing lists. |
