EURON/EUnited Technology Transfer Award
Third edition
The
The EURON/EUnited Robotics Technology Transfer Award was presented for
the third time on Saturday 18 March 2006
at EURON's annual meeting in Palermo.
[Press release].
CONGRATULATIONS!
to the two winners:
-
Taipan 2
(H160), an autonomous underwater vehicle for shallow water,
developed by
LIRMM (France) and
Hytec (France). Taipan 2 is a small
size (1m80 length, 20cm diameter, 60kg) and very low cost AUV. It is
derived from a torpedo-shaped AUV Taipan and has a single propeller, a
rudder and a stern diving plane. An additional diving plane, located
in the front, endows the vehicle with new capabilities particularly
suited to very shallow water environmental applications. Taipan 2 was
presented by Etienne Dombre.
-
A open interface specification for communication between
cameras, image processing systems and robots from various vendors, developed as part of the
ARIKT project (Germany).
Standardization and open specifications are prerequisites to obtaining
an interoperable and portable modular system. Due to interoparability
and portability the modular system becomes highly flexible, scalible
and expandible. For this reason the developed specifications are to
form the basis for a new industry standard.
ARIKT consortium members are
AMATEC,
KUKA,
REIS Robotics,
ISRA Vision Systems Ag,
the Institute for process control, automation and robotics of the
University of Karlsruhe, and
VITRONIC GmbH.
The protocol was presented by Michael Gauß.
Michael Gauß, Etienne Dombre, Daniel Lecking and Paulo Alvito.
Congratulations also to:
-
RTS-STILL Robotic Fork-Lift, the third prize winner.
The variable pallet pick-up and 3D
localisation in industrial environments was presented by Daniel
Lecking. Produced by collaboration between the University of
Hannover and the German forklift truck company STILL GmbH.
-
Raposa, highly commended. This semi autonomous robot is designed
for rescue operations by
IdMind LDA (Portugal) and has been tested as part of the Lisbon
Firefighters team in the international exercise Eurosot
in October, 2005. In this simulated earthquake, Raposa was used to
explore a pipeline system of a collapsed building.

Getting Involved
We hope that you will get involved in many of EURON's activities and
encourage others to do so as well.
Attend Meetings
Attending meetings is an excellent way of making contacts and friends
within the community. These contacts are normally interesting, and may
also be useful!
EURON Schools are aimed at PhD students so are particularly good
for people wishing to deepen an already existing interest.
